About Ultrasound
Ultrasound is like ordinary sound except it
has a frequency or pitch higher than humans can hear. When the sound
is sent into the body from a transducer resting on a patient's skin,
the sound is reflected on a patient's skin, the sound is reflected
off internal structures. The returning echoes are received by the
transducer and converted into an image of the internal structure on
a viewing screen. These images can be recorded on film or paper.
The benefits of sonography (ultrasound) are
many, with new applications continually being developed through
ongoing research. This procedure is used for all parts of the body
and is effective in the clinical evaluation of the following
conditions:
- Pediatric (renal, liver, etc.)
- Traumatic Injuries
- Tumor Detection
- Abdominal: including liver, gallbladder, bile ducts, pancreas, spleen, kidneys and large blood vessels.
- Gynecology: pelvic ultrasound exam visualizing the uterus and/or ovaries
- Obstetrics: determining the due date of your baby, position, size and more
- Prostate: displaying structural abnormalities, infection, enlargement and cancer.
